Enrollment Policy
Lake Superior Academy follows Michigan law and does not charge tuition. We do not discriminate in our admissions process. This means we do not treat students differently based on ability, test scores, disability, or any other reason that would be illegal in a public school.
To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old by December 1 of that school year.
Enrollment is open to all students who live in Michigan. We cannot enroll students who live outside of Michigan, except for approved foreign exchange students.
We may limit enrollment by age or grade level, as allowed by law.
We may give priority to siblings of current students and children of staff members if space is limited. However, we do not give preference to children of board members.
Students who attended the previous school year may return, as long as their grade level is still offered.
Students can apply even if they do not have school records yet.
If we receive more applications than available spaces, students will be selected through a random lottery.
Application Process
The application period lasts at least two weeks. We may offer tour times during evenings and/or weekends.
We accept applications all year:
- If there is space available, students may enroll right away.
- If there is no space, students will be placed on a waiting list.
- The waiting list resets at the start of each new application period.
If a space opens, students are admitted based on their place on the waiting list. This order is set by the lottery. If there is no waiting list, students are admitted in the order in which applications are received.
Applications are complete only after a family attends a school tour.
Lake Superior Academy is an equal opportunity school. We work to build and support a diverse student body.
Re-enrolling Students
Re-Enrolling Students
We will notify families of the deadline to re-enroll their child for the next school year.
If we offer sibling priority, families will be asked if they want to enroll any siblings.
If a student does not re-enroll by the deadline, they must apply again during the new student application period.
Students on the waiting list must also reapply when a new application period begins.
After collecting responses, we will determine:
- How many current students are returning in each grade
- How many siblings are applying
- Whether a waiting list is needed for siblings
- How many open seats remain in each grade
Random Selection
If there are more applications than available seats, we will hold a random lottery.
Families will be notified if their child is not selected. Those students will be placed on a waiting list.
The waiting list order is based on the lottery results.
