Lake Superior Academy’s Partnership with Little Traverse Conservancy
At Lake Superior Academy, we believe in learning beyond the classroom walls, and our exciting partnership with Little Traverse Conservancy (LTC) brings that vision to life! Sarah and Sarah from LTC visit our students a couple of times a month to lead hands-on projects that connect our students with nature and the great outdoors. These projects range from wildlife studies to survival skills, fostering a deep appreciation for the environment while encouraging practical learning experiences.
One of the most exciting features of our partnership is the 37-acre woodland property that LTC purchased in 2020. This beautiful area has become an essential part of our outdoor classroom, where our students can explore, learn, and engage directly with the natural world. In collaboration with LTC, our students even took part in clearing a trail through the woods. This nature preserve, lovingly named "Little Leaf" by one of our students, is now a favorite spot for discovery and outdoor adventures.
Through this partnership, students learn about local ecosystems, wildlife, conservation efforts, and even how to navigate the wilderness. Whether it’s observing animal tracks, identifying local plants, or building survival shelters, the collaboration between LSA and LTC provides a rich, dynamic learning environment that nurtures a sense of responsibility for the world around us.
We’re proud to offer our students these unique opportunities to grow, learn, and explore the wonders of nature—right in our backyard!
